Description

POSITION: Teacher Assistant and Bus Driver

 

LOCATION: Wellford Academy

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Applicants may be certified or non-certified 
  • If non-certified, applicants must have 60 college credits or have successfully passed the ParaPro test
  • All applicants must agree to obtain their SC Bus Driver License.

                                     

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator, Director of Transportation and assigned Teacher(s)

 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Under direct supervision, provides general teaching assistance to assigned teacher(s).  Conducts such duties to support instruction as delivery of small group instruction, monitoring students at all times, maintaining confidentiality of students. 

Safely operates a school bus in accordance with all state laws and regulations to transport students to and from school(s) facilities.  Is responsible for maintaining discipline of students being transported.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provides classroom teaching assistance such as reinforcing skills, monitoring in-school-suspension classroom and/or detention hall, completing roll call and student counts; administering make-up tests, etc. Assists teachers with academic instruction and classroom activities; prepares and disseminates materials for classroom activities.
  • Sets up classroom for special activities as assigned such as preparing materials for classroom, setting up charts, etc.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required such as distributing materials, scheduling parent or teacher appointments, ordering supplies, scheduling tutoring, escorting students to other areas of the school, etc.
  • Operates general office equipment such as a computer, copier, laminator, and calculator.
  • Operates a bus over route which has been designated and approved by the School District and the State Department of Education.
  • Operates equipment in accordance with all state laws and regulations.
  • Maintains discipline of students being transported, and reports misconduct to the principal and/or transportation administrators for appropriate disciplinary action using incident report provided.
  • Maintains a clean appearance of equipment, and reports any vandalism or equipment failures to immediate supervisor.
  • Attends safety meetings.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date daily records on mileage and time sheets.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date route descriptions, student rosters and seating charts.
  • Exhibits acceptable conduct as an employee in keeping with School Board policies.
  • Maintains current required driver's license and other operator’s certification.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Conducts duties in an office/school/work environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment. 

Bus Work is conducted primarily on a school bus where one is required to drive in varying weather conditions which means exposure to conditions such as heat, cold, rain, humidity, etc., and at times to drive on poor road conditions.  Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and awareness.  Physical demands are related to the operation of a school bus wherein one is required to drive, operate handbrake and other controls, and maintain cleanliness of equipment.  Routine local travel is required to transport to and from school; no overnight travel is required.
