POSITION: McKinney Vento Micro-Bus Driver



GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Safely operates a 14-passenger bus in accordance with all state laws and regulations to transport McKinney-Vento students to and from school(s) facilities and activities. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act supports providing transportation to children and youth experiencing homelessness. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have no more than 4 points against driver's license within the last 12 months
  • Maintains a Class D license or above
  • All applicants are subject to a SLED check of criminal history and any other checks required by law or deemed necessary by District Five
  • Have a valid South Carolina driver's license
  • Successfully complete a school bus driver's training class of 20 hours
  • successfully pass a physical performance test
  • All Bus Drivers are required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and will be subjected to random drug and alcohol testing
  • Drivers are responsible for obtaining a Department of Transportation physical and proof of a clear tuberculosis test completed within the last 12 months.  
  • Copies of the applicants official birth certification, Social Security card, and driver's license are also required.

REPORTS TO:  Director of Transportation/Assistant Director of Transportation




PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Operates a bus over route which has been designated and approved by the School District.
  • Operates equipment in accordance with all state laws and regulations.
  • Maintains discipline of students being transported, and reports misconduct to the principal and/or transportation administrators for appropriate disciplinary action using the incident report provided.
  • Maintains a clean appearance of equipment, and reports any vandalism or equipment failures to immediate supervisor.
  • Attends safety meetings.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date daily records on mileage and time sheets.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date route descriptions, student rosters and seating charts.
  • Exhibits acceptable conduct as an employee in keeping with School Board policies.
  • Maintains current required driver's license and other operator’s certification.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Bus Work is conducted primarily on a school bus where one is required to drive in varying weather conditions which means exposure to conditions such as heat, cold, rain, humidity, etc., and at times to drive on poor road conditions.  Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and awareness.  Physical demands are related to the operation of a school bus wherein one is required to drive, operate handbrake and other controls, and maintain cleanliness of equipment.  Routine local travel is required to transport to and from school; no overnight travel is required.
