POSITION: Substitute School Nurse, 2024-2025
LOCATION: District Wide
QUALIFICATIONS: RN with valid SC License
Two Years Nursing Experience
REPORTS TO: Director of Health Services/Building Principals
GENERAL SUMMARY:
To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absences due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the District Health Coordinator and administrators in developing school health programs.
- Conducts school health programs of immunization, physical examinations, and mass screenings as directed by the district.
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Instructs teachers on referring students for health defects.
- Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters as directed by the administration.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered and injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Communicates with the Director of Health Services an appropriate school personnel on special health needs of individual students.
- Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Participates in in-service training programs
- Assists the Director of Health Services in developing and maintaining a wellness program for faculty and staff.
- Assists the classroom teacher with the instructional process for specific topics when requested and with approval of the principal.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in school.
- Maintains current CPR certification at all times.
- Performs any other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Health Services or administrators.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Conducts duties in an office/school/work environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Job requires the ability to use medical equipment and supplies.
