POSITION: Substitute Teacher
Applicants will be emailed two weeks before the orientation date.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
Applicants must be 18 years old.
Some college and teaching experience preferred but not required.
Positions are often available for certified teachers to do long-term placements.
All applicants must undergo background checks, must have TB certificate, and must provide 2 PROFESSIONAL references that are NOT family members.
All applicants must go through District Five Substitute training and have all required paperwork complete before being called to substitute teach.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator, assigned Teacher(s)
GENERAL SUMMARY:
To enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the safety of students by maintaining proper supervision at all times.
- Teach lessons outlined and described in the Substitute Lesson Plans as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Consult with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Lesson Plans.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain a clean classroom - no trash on floor, desks etc., all supplies put up at the end of each day.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Follow all district and school policies, rules, and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Conducts duties in an office/school/work environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are restricted to office work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.

Pay Scale:
$100/day for Non-Certified Teacher Substitutes
$150/day for Certified Teachers (Must hold a valid SC Teaching Certificate)
